BEST-COST held its second consensus meeting, the second of three such meetings planned during BEST-COST to ensure stakeholder co-creation of the project’s methodological protocols and support long-term stakeholder engagement. The meeting was designed to bring experts in research and policy on the environmental burden of disease (EBoD) to discuss the work of BEST-COST’s in developing research methodologies on the EBoD.
Key discussion points focused on:
- Ongoing BEST-COST work on environmental burden of disease, exposure-response functions, and input data.
- Availability of data, such as noise data, at different geographical levels.
- Using input data in understanding the burden of disease at different national levels.
- Use of different values to illustrate the potential health impacts of legislation.
- Using European exposure-response functions while acknowledging their limits in presenting a Europe-wide understanding.
The discussions will feed into the development of BEST-COST activities, including applying its research findings to the case study countries (Belgium, Estonia, France, Norway and Portugal), to better understand the socioeconomic costs of air and noise pollution in different national contexts.
